- What is Hyperbaric Therapy
A Simple Explanation of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, often called HBOT, is a treatment where you breathe concentrated oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The added pressure helps your lungs absorb more oxygen, which then travels through your bloodstream to support tissue repair, circulation, recovery, and overall cellular function.
At Fresh Start Hyperbaric, we use mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy in a comfortable chamber setting. Sessions are non-invasive, relaxing, and typically last 60–90 minutes.
How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Works
Oxygen is essential for healing. Under normal conditions, oxygen is carried mostly by red blood cells. In a pressurized hyperbaric chamber, oxygen can also dissolve into the blood plasma, allowing more oxygen to circulate throughout the body.
That extra oxygen availability may help support areas where circulation is limited, tissues are inflamed, or the body is working harder to repair itself.

Why Use Pressure Instead of Just Breathing Oxygen?
Pressure changes how your body absorbs oxygen. At higher altitudes, lower pressure makes it harder to absorb oxygen, which is why altitude sickness can happen. Hyperbaric therapy works in the opposite direction by increasing pressure, helping your body absorb more oxygen than it could through normal breathing alone.
When concentrated oxygen is combined with increased pressure, your body can carry more oxygen to tissues that need support.
What Hyperbaric Therapy May Help Support
People explore hyperbaric oxygen therapy for many different reasons. Some are recovering from injuries or surgery. Others are focused on brain health, inflammation, chronic fatigue, athletic recovery, or long-term wellness.
Hyperbaric therapy does not replace medical care, but it may support the body’s natural healing and recovery systems.

What Happens During a Session?
1
Get Comfortable
2
Begin Pressurization
The chamber gradually increases pressure. You may feel pressure in your ears, similar to flying or driving through elevation changes.
3
Relax and Breathe
